The Red & Blue Foundation is the fundraising arm of Melbourne Football Club, one of the oldest professional sporting clubs in the world with a proud history dating back to 1858.
The club's origins can be traced back to a letter drafted by Tom Wills more than 160 years ago, proposing a “foot-ball club” to keep Victorian cricketers fit in winter. Who could predict this simple yet historically profound proposal would evolve into Australian Rules football as we know it today.
Melbourne’s storied history tells tales of the greatest of highs, and some heavy lows.
Despite thirteen AFL premiership cups and a roster of famous names etched onto the honour boards, financial issues have at times threatened the club’s very existence. But it is through this adversity that Melbourne grew stronger and more resilient.
When backs were against the wall, the power of the Demon Spirit came to the fore.
It was thanks to its people that Melbourne Football Club survived through hardships, and it will be its people that ensure the club’s continued survival for years to come.
